It's ALWAYS been a Golf GTI, ever since they released the Mk2 body style in 1985. Go look at the line I posted. VW STILL calls it the Golf GTI.

No it is not.

As MKJ said, perhaps in America because they were affraid of people
getting confused (like toxicbug) with a car that had 2 bits of info on!

There is more than one type of GTi so they cant call it just a GTi

You have:
Golf Gti
Polo Gti
Lupo Gti

So 3 completely different types of car there with a Gti badge!!
