My latest project turned out really good. Moulded and casted the horns of an african Gazelle that I got cheap off the bay.
Soft 1-part silicon mould (the light green stuff), 2-part plaster bandage mothermould, casted in white polyurethane.

This project was more like a proof of concept. I'm gonna show it to my employee to hopefully get more interesting jobs to do. On the other side the final goal for myself would be to get as good as http://compositeeffects.com. I`ll have to learn how to work with modelling clay. Or, rather see if that is my thing at all.

Edit: And I`m gonna paint it. I`m not bad at paint jobs. Been doing it with Games Workshop`s figurines since 25 years. This is just a bit larger of a job. Should turn out well, be it a clone or of a different color- scheme.

Clearcast, hmm. I don't have a vacuum-pot, I guess you need one for bubble-free resins? And I didn't really care about the looks, surface-quality was my goal. The originals look pretty awesome as they are. Will hang them on the wall.
I got the stuff from Mouldlife in London this time. The silicon is Gel00 applied in 5 tinted layers. The PUR is Easyflo120 (quick stuff!). Awesome materials but the ordering/paying/delivery was a disaster. Probably not going to order there a second time. Two canisters of the silicon got broken during delivery. Slime all over the place inside the package upon opening. I'll stay with smooth-on (http://www.kaupo.de) instead. They are more expensive and their products are, imo, not as good as ML's but from experience they are just more reliable and more customer friendly in their service.

Yeah you'd need a vac chamber/degasser to remove bubbles, you can build your own quite easily if you can pick up a decent pump on the cheap tho. They're super useful for silicone molds, it removes so much of the worry of getting air bubbles on the surface of your tooling. We nearly always use clear silicone these days so you can see how the mould is filling and wrangle the bubbles out as it's curing. Good tip you had on the tinted layers, it makes it so much easier being able to see the variation.

A lot of our productions use huge quantities of gear from Mouldlife, I've usually got small batches from Bentley Chemicals in my time. A shame they let you down. SmoothOn are a known quantity mind, I've bought their gear through Bentley and their packaging is usually nice and secure.

Easyflo 120 is a classic It's got quite a high shrinkage mind, so if you're ever working with tight tolerances bear that in mind!
