New job/gas.

Jeeps are freaking gas hogs, I was paying something like 400-500$ a month in gas just to go to work which isn't far from where I lived. Seeing as gas was a problem I started looking for a promotion at my old job, or a new job that paid better. I got an interview for a government job and the interview went REALLY well, so good in fact I was pretty sure I was going to get the job however it was an hour and a half away from where I lived. The Jeep would cost me something like 80-100$ in gas to travel back and forth if I got the job so I started to look at getting another vehicle.

The day after I got it I found out I got the job I wanted which was great. With the GTI it cost me roughly 30$ a day instead of 80-100$ to get to my new job until I moved. I wouldn't have been able to take this new job if I still had the old Jeep, it's too bad though I enjoyed going in the trails with it.

I think I might buy myself an old beater to go offroading with at some point down the road.

$100 to get to your job? With US gasoline prices, that would get you like 125 liters easily? You live like 700km from your job?

off roading is pretty neat, back when I was a kid I used to always get stuck/fucked cuz my pallys who had cars at 16-18 always wanted to off road, ug never done till right stuck lol

thinking about it trhat kinda turns me off about it, I do like the crawling kind of off road tho


I want to do like a bunch of Rockford files/smokey and the bandit driving, hopefully one day I want to get a 2000-2006 vette and pay somewhere to let me drive like that there or take lessons or some shit

Yeah when I started here it's an hour and a half drive on the highway. I'm not sure how far in k/m's but probably close to 130-150km/s one way. So 300ish in total.

I now live 5 minutes away but when I got the job that wasn't the case.

It's expensive enough! I did move closer after doing the commute for a month. However even know I go back on weekends to be with the wife and kids so I enjoy the savings.

I travel 80 miles a day back and fore to my job...I have a 1.5DCI car that does about 55mpg on average and I only drive once a week (yay car share - save the world and my wallet). I put £120 a month in my car and I find that ridiculous

You wouldn't want to drive a Jeep. I went from a Kia Spectra to a Jeep and was floored when I realized how big of a difference it was. I expected gas consumption to go up a little, just not that much.

Right now, I spend roughly 20$ a week in gas if it weren't for the long trips home on the weekends. so roughly 80-100$ a month vs 400-500 a month. HUGE difference, in fact the savings pay for the car...

I know what you're getting at, but the Lupo is a solid car cos it's made by VW. Is also why you can switch engines / brakes / springs with relative ease cos parts from the Golf/Polo will swap onto the Lupo with little effort. As far as little cars go it has to be one of the best imo and is the actual successor to the MKI golf

What car ?, the one you looked at but didn't buy, then bought, then swapped for a car that isn't made ?

I was lucky to get 27mpg out of the GTI I had, but then again I actually had a Golf GTI. I expect make believe GTIs have good mileage.

Mine was a GTI rabbit golf white 2013 black 2010 VW just GTI.

Yeah everything is fine it's strictly a financial decision. The New Brunswick government offered me a staggering amount to go work for them, I really couldn't refuse.

I'll make in 6 months what I would have been paid in a year at my old job and that job was the best paying tech job in town. So ultimately if I can turn this into a permanent position I'll have a job for life here that I can retire on.

It doesn't really get more cushy than a government job afterall...

I make more money, work less hours and those hours are always guaranteed to be 9-4:30 with an hour lunch. I ain't complaining.
