The health care thread
Re: The health care thread
The next step is reconciling all the bills from the House and Senate, into one gargantuan, pork-laden, earmarked, 5000-page giant that disappoints everybody who isn't outright infuriated by it.
Then they'll sign that one.
Then they'll sign that one.

Re: The health care thread
Ever wondered what has convinced so many senior citizens that they would lose Medicare benefits under health care reform?
Look no further:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dawn-teo/ ... 93891.html
Their providers have been sending out letters scaring them to death, and making the letters look like they are actual notifications about their Medicare benefits.
HHS is making them cease and desist, and remove all such info from their websites. But I don't understand why HHS doesn't force them to send out letters retracting these claims.
Deceitful fucking pricks. My grandmother is one of the people who believes this shit. She recently had a hip replacement, and she's scared to death about her medication benefits being cut.

Have you lot heard of this Alan Grayson fellow? He's quite awesome:

and CNN

I fucking love the way he outmaneuvers his opponents, leaving them in disarray.
Inspiring

They made me smile, but didn't make my day.
This is just another example of retarded, right-wing-nuts having their incredibly insensitive words ignored, and having those same retarded wing-nuts freaking out because someone who is "not one of them" uses the same blunt language.
It goes to what I said in another thread about how right-wingers throw wrenches in every single debate by acting absolutely insane (ignoring the real issues...which blocks progress) and then nitpicking and going nuts (and again ignoring the real issues) to focus not on the truth of the matter, but the fact that they feel insulted (which they will do anyways on any comment about any subject from someone who is "not one of them"...so what's the point?). I mean...the same people (who when Bush was in office) called war-detractors "traitors" are cheering (fucking cheering) that the Obama failed in bringing the Olympics to Chicago...and nobody blinks. I mean...who's side are they on besides their own?
It also doesn't help matters when the CNN host in the second vid (that utterly fucking useless Wolfe Blitzer) was also only focusing on the "insults" and - again with incredible mind-numbing consistency - ignoring the real issues. Rachel Maddow fucking nailed it as she always does (Ms Maddow should actually be on CNN and Mr.Blitzer should be taken out back and shot).
It was good indeed to have someone on a national news outlet call out the retards for their retardation...but absolutely nothing will change from the exchange besides people feeling good for all of 10 minutes.
What a sorry fucking waste - and lacking any semblance of rational discussion - politics has become.

Re: The health care thread
Well, what cheered me up to no end is the way he deals with their talk-back. They try to make it into talking points or simple demagoguery and he just ignores the shit out of them and hammers home his message. He interrupts them at will, keeps on talking when
someone interrupts him instead, dismisses childish retorts by treating them like children who should not speak when the adults are speaking... he basically does everything right.
PS i share your sentiments about Wolf Blitzer, the man should be put asleep and kept in a vessel of formaldahyde as a reminder of our grim times for the benefit future generations.

Re: The health care thread
So if I understand these proposed health bills correctly:
- Health insurance will be mandatory. So that means that it'll be illegal for anyone to not have insurance (like car insurance).
- The health insurance industry will now have 30 - 45 million new customers feeding their profit margin, because those that didn't bother getting insurance because they couldn't afford it or they didn't want to pay for it will now have to pay for it.
- The "public option" will not be available. And even if it was, people will still need to pay for it out of their own pockets.
- They'll increase taxes to pay for it instead of pulling money out of the "War On Terror".
- The insurance companies can't deny coverage for "pre-existing conditions" and can't deny coverage for those who need it, but will increase premiums across the board to counter the lost profits from actually having to pay insurance claims.
- The cost of healthcare in America will actually not come down.
- There are no mandates to ensure the effectiveness of the healthcare system will improve.
- The right-wingers still aren't happy since they (and that idiot Bill Mahar) believe that preventive care (by way of paying for actual medical tests) is too expensive.
- Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer are still idiots.
- Everyone is praising Olympia Snowe as a hero for making the vote 14-9 instead of 13-10.
If I've gotten any of this wrong, please correct me.
I can't really say I'm surprised about all this. The only thing that I am surprised about is that they've made it that everyone must pay, regardless of consumers unable to afford insurance. I knew people were going to get fucked, but not in that way.
Oh wait...I'm not surprised at all coming from a system based on profiting from sick people.
lol...good ol capitalism and special interests undermining the best interests of the country, etc. You poor bastards.

Re: The health care thread

Oh yea, and I just found out that the health insurance at work will be going up by 30% this year. They're shopping around to try to find a better deal. Right now we have Anthem BCBS.

Re: The health care thread
Wait, you mean to tell me that you didn't have to wait for 6 months or come before a group of Socialist death panels or be told that you had to go to the clinic in Manitoba? Cuz that's what I heard from some guy who knows some guy who had a cousin who works as a U.S. Customs border guard who heard from a Canadian that that's what it's like in Canada.

Reid will include opt-out public plan in bill...

Didn't think it would happen. Hopefully the extra votes will be found

Re: The health care thread
So the Senate version of the bill basically does two things:
1) You MUST buy insurance or face fines/jail
2) Pre-existing conditions are ok, you just have to pay more
Um...fuck...
