the shadows suck. known issue if they're blinking into some bizzare wall-clip effect.

Lame... I guess that's what updates are for.

I dusted off the game shelf last night and pulled out an old one for fun, I never had GT1 but I did have 2. What a differance 10 years makes.

any hints for how the dq system works because i can't make heads or tails of it and it's fucking infuriating. sometimes I'll accidentally nail someone and then wait for the restart screen only to have nothing, other times computers will run lines wide then hit ME and I get dq'd. still haven't finished a lap on the last ia license, I think i'll have a heart attack before i come close to finishing the s license

god...gotta keep bitching for a bit. If I had to describe the driver AI in this I'd put it somewhere between zombie and retarded. hopefully online play redeems it. I've realized pretty much all my complaints come down to the computer AI, whenever i'm playing time trial or racing in the front it's brilliant, but the other cars are just so fucking stupid that any time you're tied up with them you're fucked. There were trucks braking on the Sport Truck Daytona race for fucks sake. Add to that the Mercedes special events, where they put cars going 3/4 speed on the ring with you and give them instructions to fuck with you. Every single one pulls in front of me instead of letting me pass, and two of them just braked twice in the beginning of the final straight of the ring. What the fuck.

I did figure out that some of the license tests and special tracks can be made easier because for some reason they'll give you a moronic set up to the car. For the intermediate top gear race, you can't turn stability management on in the lotus but you can mess with some steering and ABS and other things that make it less prone to slide everywhere. Same went with some of the lambos in the tests, they'd give them to you with no abs, ASM off and other dumb shit, but let you turn them on. It's like the developers were just being dicks.

don't sweat the S license tests. i was completely dumbfounded as to how easy they were after some of the other stuff they put you through.

as far as the DQ system goes that's a bit more wishy washy. from what i gather three things seem most likely to make the game fail you. excessive speed, applied acceleration and impacts on the front 1/3 of your car. excessive speed is fairly obvious, but it's worth keeping in mind that if you think you can overtake an AI car by late braking into a corner you better make sure there won't be contact of any kind until you're well in front of them. Having your foot on the gas can make you get DQ'd on even the smallest of bumps. If you're applying brakes the game will be a bit more lenient. If you're doing neither the game seems to be even more lenient. The tricky part is that these thresholds are still pretty fucking close. Then there's where the impact happens. The further back on the car you go the less likely it seems the game will make you cuss like a sailor.

for passing, don't worry about having to pass every car as soon as possible. sometimes it's best to wait. passing at the wrong time can sometimes mean significantly slower lap times. keeping the pressure on an AI car can also cause them to drive wrecklessly and spin out at times. the AI cars also hog the prefered line. so with that in mind you can more easily anticipate where the AI will be and plan accordingly.

Thanks for the tips...like I said I'd place the Ai between zombie and retarded. They either take a direct line without regard to other cars, or they actively try to fuck with me or just drive stupid. I was racing against a veyron and the driver couldn't keep it on the road. every corner he'd run wide and kick up dirt, it was hilarious.

also, I figured out why the morons brake on daytona, and it's once again: shitty AI. They try to follow the GT race line, and for some reason it says to brake before the turns, so the computers do it.

It's a good example of how shitty the AI still is. They didn't even give them a different set up for doing a high speed ring, it's the same AI as every other race.

And it's shite.

Yeah, being about halfway thru at least (haven't done shit for B-Spec) I'd have to rate this game a firm meh/10. I'm having trouble coming up with items that 5 improved on from 4, whereas my list of complaints of unaddressed issues and new problems is huge.

What cars did you guys use for the rally events? I'm having trouble finding a 4wd car I can buy that's under the HP limit for the first race, every damn subaru or lancer is 276 horsepower. Anything that does have 4wd that I can buy is usually around 100hp base so it'll just get destroyed.

I even bumped the impreza that I bought for the beginner race up to the intermediate horsepower limit, then promptly got destroyed buy +6s a stage so that didn't work. I haven't tried anything else yet.

I started the Loeb challenge too then found out the car has traction control on it and they want you to keep traction...what the fuck....that's as big a what the fuck as DQs for touching on nascar races. Like the other unnecessarily hard challenges, you can turn it off and destroy. Stupid.

The Veyron is fun as hell. Nearly hit 270 on Sarthe with mods but no gearbox changes. Cripes.

for that low horsepower rally event i used a celica all-trac /gt-four. can't remember if i had to do any sort of tuning to make sure it could properly compete though.

for the higher up dirt and snow events i used an evo. for tarmac i used an impreza. also, if you're racing against a grid that has one or two stupid fast cars then take note of what they are. that way you can either go out and buy it or a similar one or just keep restarting the event until that car is no longer on the grid.

tuning wise i'd recomend weight reduction before increasing the power. lighter cars are more nimble and on a loose surface that's even more true.

lastly, if you didn't already know, the rally stages are randomly generated. so don't bother trying to memorize them.

Yeah I caught the random generation on the description, it's actually made for a some decent courses and a couple stupid ones. I think my 1st stage course one time had a 7 left then straight till finish.

I'll have to figure out where to get the alltrac. At some point I probably just need to dump money into the cars as well. I've been as stingy as possible trying to keep a decent supply of cash for a FGT or something once I gain a few more levels. I just unlocked Extreme so I'll need a proper race car soon, as of now my fastest cars are the Veyron and a Lambo.

just got into b-spec and I have to deem this pretty much worthless to me. the driver never seems to give a fuck what I have to say and whenever I try to race cars that are equivalent he drives as stupid as they do, so I'll just be giving him overpowered cars to win the prizes. waste of time, and I can't even fast forward it. he's oblivious to the other cars like they're oblivious to him.

not sure why I was expecting the AI to be any better...

cripes... like I just did the shitty FF lvl 0 course, even with the civic race car leading the race by 6 secs he somehow loses all nerve and finished 2nd on the last lap. Now I get to do the race again, because my driver is retarded.

Lol he's getting beat on lap times by stock focuses...can't do it.

how's test drive unlimited 2?

balls.... got knocked out of GT-Academy in round 3 this weekend. No national championship for me. Ran out of talent 1.2 seconds short and ended up 20th in the Northeast and 71st in the Nation. :tear:
Can't really complain too much about being the 99.87th percentile though.
