problem is, you need to be within 17* blocks of the spawners for them to work. an alternative might be to skip the long drop, and go for something ultra-simple (though with more effort needed to kill the spiders):

if mbox works, i wouldn't mind building this somewhere nice and central, like around the spawn (maybe replace one of those stone hut things fkd made, which atm are just homes for testificates)

My theory is it's a problem with the building material. The original xp farm was surrounded by stone, not glass.

My guess is the problem is the number of spawners. The original had 2. This one has 6.

hmmm
if it was either of those things we'd have this problem all the way up the pipe. i blame overcomplication (and, to be honest, chaps: fixing things that ain't broke)
i'm just gonna start a new, simpler one near the spawn tomorrow

xp farm seems to work again. props to whoever did whatever it was they did to fix it. the spiders started to glitch at first, but if you stand under the drop zone they un-glitch and come through thick and fast

I tweaked that last corner area. I added a water flow block on the other side of the turn so the corner wasn't a water source block itself.

That's what we did too and the spiders still end up getting stuck. Strange.

If I had know it'd do that I would have kept running off the previous version.
Now that I've truncated the map to 5000x5000, I'm attempting to explore all land within this area.

seems i can't get on the server while running the new optifine AA any more. can get on fine with it disabled (also AA runs fine in SP)
the login screen kinda hangs then tells me the connection's lost

The latest versions of minecraft seemed to run quite smoothly compared to 1.1 versions. I used to use optifine but haven't needed it recently.
