BOB COSTAS: Well, you knew it was coming. In the aftermath of the nearly unfathomable events in Kansas City, that most mindless of sports clichés was heard yet again: something like this really puts it all in perspective. Well, if so, that sort of perspective has a very short shelf-life since we will inevitably hear about the perspective we have supposedly again regained the next time ugly reality intrudes upon our games.
Please, those who need tragedies to continually recalibrate their sense of proportion about sports would seem to have little hope of ever truly achieving perspective. You want some actual perspective on this?
Well, a bit of it comes from the Kansas City-based writer Jason Whitlock with whom I do not always agree, but who today said it so well that we may as well just quote or paraphrase from the end of his article.
“Our current gun culture,” Whitlock wrote, “ensures that more and more domestic disputes will end in the ultimate tragedy, and that more convenience-store confrontations over loud music coming from a car will leave more teenage boys bloodied and dead."
“Handguns do not enhance our safety. They exacerbate our flaws, tempt us to escalate arguments, and bait us into embracing confrontation rather than avoiding it. In the coming days, Jovan Belcher’s actions, and their possible connection to football, will be analyzed. Who knows?"
“But here,” wrote Jason Whitlock, “is what I believe. If Jovan Belcher didn’t possess a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today.”
Remember that the conservative mind often sees things in black and white with little imagination for all the shades of gray in between.HM-PuFFNSTuFF wrote:@ Gwamps
Not never, just way less. Does your mind really work that way?
Do you fail to see how it's easier to kill someone with a gun than it is with a knife or car or baseball bat?
You are seriously one dumb fuck.
lol it actually does. It's actually PART OF THE ACTUAL DESCRIPTION OF A CONSERVATIVE. Actually.xer0s wrote:Oh, ok. Well that explains it...
So that line of reasoning is somehow different than your crazy/stupid theory?GONNAFISTYA wrote:lol..yeah...perfect reasoning.
Dude, I respect your opinions. But what amazes me, is the way you go about presenting them. You're radical and rabid with your comments and opinions. It makes it difficult to have a discussion with you that doesn't end in "lol fuck you dummy". Anyone that doesn't agree with you is a moron. I wish you could step back and see how you look...GONNAFISTYA wrote:lol it actually does. It's actually PART OF THE ACTUAL DESCRIPTION OF A CONSERVATIVE. Actually.xer0s wrote:Oh, ok. Desperate troll is desperate. You can keep telling yourself that I'm "in gwamps camp" if it makes you feel better. Of course, you'd have to completely ignore many things I've posted in the past (none of which I'm talking about in this thread, but you need to think I am), as well as what I've said in this thread. But, let's not have facts get in the way of your self-righteous rant, OK?GONNAFISTYA wrote:And NS is in gwamps camp on this one.
Lots of dumb fucks in the south.
Of course I get the point behind Bob's statement. But his reasoning is just as flawed as the statement I made. There is no guarantee that the murder rate would go down. (psychos will always find a way to kill people) Though I'm sure it would. However, would that number justify changing the constitution and taking rights away from millions of law abiding citizens? We also don't know that the rate of murder wouldn't go up because the armed criminals can easily kill unarmed citizens without worry... Guns are a part of the American culture and are not going anywhere. That's reality. So I suggest anyone who has a difference of opinion get comfortable with that.HM-PuFFNSTuFF wrote:@ Gwamps

I usually steer clear of these discussions, mostly because this right here is what it all boils down to.YourGrandpa wrote:So I suggest anyone who has a difference of opinion get comfortable with that.
I get it. You're not bright enough to respond so you fling shit. Your monkey see, monkey do mentality is fun to watch though.HM-PuFFNSTuFF wrote:Trying to explain reality to Brian Elame is like trying to teach calculus to a large igneous rock.
The way you're acting in this thread is the way you ALWAYS act when discussing this topic. I guess that question wasn't so simple for you after all. Sad.GONNAFISTYA wrote:See....and they tell me that I'm the one being unreasonable...when I came out at the start saying I'd be unreasonable. They simply do not understand that I'm actively acting exactly like them.
It's fucking priceless.
In all seriousness....are you telling me that you CANNOT see what it is that I'm doing and you CANNOT see that I'm acting the way I am as a response to brain-deadedness?xer0s wrote:Dude, I respect your opinions.
