If you change the priority of the crysis executable in task manager to high (defaul is normal) then you get about 10-15% increase in FPS.

i guess in the year 2020 america, britain (and probably israel) have all merged into one country, the most awesome country on earth where shit like this goes down every day

Enable dx10 effects in XP... assuming you have the hardware for it. Someone in the thread with a 7900 says he's even seeing dx10 effects, figure that one out.

i trawl thru a thread full of "omg big lulz dis iz awesum!!11" so you don't have to...
I tried this and I am amazed. I am even more amazed that it still runs at an almost playable fps

This is what I did. You can try this at your own risk as I am taking no responsibility if you screw up your system.

I went to my CVarGroups folder and in there were a bunch of cfg files.

I first made a copy of the entire CVarGroups on my desktop in case I screwed up. I then opened each cfg and made the same edits. You copy the default (4) option which is the first block of text and paste/replace the last block of text with it.

for example the "sys_spec_Particles.cfg"

[default]
; default of this CVarGroup
= 4

e_particles_quality=4
e_particles_lod=1
e_particles_max_emitter_draw_screen=32
r_UseSoftParticles=1
e_water_ocean_soft_particles= 1
e_particles_object_collisions=1

[1]
e_particles_quality=1
e_particles_lod=0.75
e_particles_max_emitter_draw_screen=4
r_UseSoftParticles=0
e_water_ocean_soft_particles=0
e_particles_object_collisions=0

[2]
e_particles_quality=2
e_particles_max_emitter_draw_screen=8

[3]
e_particles_quality=3
e_particles_max_emitter_draw_screen=16

Copy all the red text and paste/replace the blue text with it so it looks like...

[default]
; default of this CVarGroup
= 4

e_particles_quality=4
e_particles_lod=1
e_particles_max_emitter_draw_screen=32
r_UseSoftParticles=1
e_water_ocean_soft_particles= 1
e_particles_object_collisions=1

[1]
e_particles_quality=1
e_particles_lod=0.75
e_particles_max_emitter_draw_screen=4
r_UseSoftParticles=0
e_water_ocean_soft_particles=0
e_particles_object_collisions=0

[2]
e_particles_quality=2
e_particles_max_emitter_draw_screen=8

[3]
e_particles_quality=4
e_particles_lod=1
e_particles_max_emitter_draw_screen=32
r_UseSoftParticles=1
e_water_ocean_soft_particles= 1
e_particles_object_collisions=1

Do this same thing with all the cfg files in the CVarGroups folder. Just remember to BACK UP the old files first!!!!

After I did this I logged back in and all I can say is wow. Thw water is very different and the the tire tracks on the beach are realistic. The depth of view and light beams look very cool as well.

And your repost relied on colored text to show you wtf you were doing... good work there.

Hmmm, this sounded logical so I gave it a try, because priority *was* set to normal when alt-tabbing to TM.
When set to high I get *exactly* the same fps on the CPU-bench, though.
Probably CPU-usage is already optimally prioritised.

i saw this on a pretty fucking state of the art / bleeding edge PC today and it still suffered moments of slow down. turning on anti aliasing made things even worse. it was rather pretty though despite the jaggies from hell.

i won't be getting this.

I will. It runs decently on my Ahlon 64 3500+(soon to be upgraded), 8600 gts, 1.5 gb rig on high. It doesn't have to be running at the very highest specs for me to enjoy it.

It's actually quite fun despite running like ass on my laptop. Bit of the old emergent gameplay there, good stuff.

I noticed that the gmaes not as open ended as FarCry was. You can sort of go off the track a bit, but you still need to follow a set path. In FarCry, I could go anywhere, at any time, but not so here.

Loading the map in the editor, it shows 90% of the island is just low detail blank stuff that you can see but cant get to :(

It sounds possible, so I hope its just a demo cut back, just so we cant see too much :D

lol fuck off odium
i remember vividly how you were complaining about FarCry not being as open ended as the beta was, and that you could only go 3 different paths instead of "anywhere anytime".

youre like one of those detergent commercials where they show you a side by side comparison how their "newly improved product" is so much better than what they did so far.
