Just got back from Skrillex live. Easily the coolest fucking thing I've ever seen. Even if you hate dubstep, mute the sound and just watch the effects off the projector.

Skrillex is without question one of the worst producers in the world today. He has almost single-handedly turned dubstep into the chainsaw sounding metallic turd fest it is today. Trust American producers to ruin yet another English genre, just like they did with Jungle

I'm used to sub-genre/cross-genre hate. The dubstep haters are a lot more tame than the metal kids, always trying to be the hardest. He is one of my favorites and I don't need anyone else to like it to validate my own taste. There are plenty of euro producers who came before and after Skrillex with even more disgusting basslines. The main thing I see different with him is he gives more of an upbeat dance/house vibe.
Been playing the piss out of the new stuff from Eptic and Calvertron lately.

^ this. skrillex is radio-friendly pimple rage, where are the headrushes?
not totally against nedstep, i like my thrills cheap. have heard stuff from the recording studio at our local community centre that fits the standard mould perfectly (danceable from the second listen and dirtier than finding your dad's watch while fisting your sister's arse) but it's got some real darkness and/or humour to it.
whenever i hear skrillex's stuff i like it, but only so far as imagining it'd be great in an edgy new advertising campaign for a tired brand that missed the retro/post-irony bandwagon. e.g. "hey tarquin, only lesbians wear wrangler. what can we do?" - "it's ok julian. let's stick a heavy outline around the logo and put it on a smudgy, animated background - then play what sounds like a transformer running upstairs to its room over the top. everyone's a rebel and no one is offended."
emo in all its forms has been a bad thing.

that goes without saying but fair play anyway, the world would be boring if we all liked the same stuff.
back on topic, have been slowly copying old CDs to my HD and got to Virus100, best covers album ever.
would've picked the alice donut one but couldn't find a decent link.

man euro dubstep is fucking garbage. it's like you took good american electronic music and added aspergers.
only good thing that has come out of europe in the last decade is In Rainbows and this Justice remix of Death From Above.
