Cheers. Confirms the highest total but lowest as a percentage.
USA: total $ 2004 = $18,999,000,000; % GNP = 0.16
EU nations listed: total $ 2004 = $42,920,000,000; % GNP (mean) = 0.46
yeah
Yes, I'm aware of the percentages, but you're also overlooking American military spending. Prior to Bush et al coming along and fucking up the entire planet, American military spending on humanitarian operations was far and away higher than the rest of the world. Now I'm sure that's changed, and the world fucking hates the US thanks to the assholes in Washington.
In fact, we used that military machine for tsunami relief (much to the chagrin of the EU). I wonder if that was included in the monetary figure of aid we gave.

Has someone brought WWII into this yet? I'm sure someone can make a comparison re: WHOSE BALLS WERE BIGGER IN WWII type deal. It seems to be the 'go to' angle for many (retarded) folks.

Anyhoo, I think the worst problem is everywhere north of New Orleans... I mean is the hurricane going to die out as soon as it gets over New Orleans? Surely not... and the media is focusing solely on New Orleans and people north of there might be caught unprepared.
amirite?

Hmm. watching the news reports on WWL and according to one of the interviewees, the only media points in NO are the superdome fiber link and the WWL satellite link, and the superdome fiber is down.
There must be some other news stations out there...

I'm in south Palm Beach county which was predicted to get fucked but the storm took a dive south and went over my new office and by my mom's house. My mom went without power for 2 days but that was it. It did some damage, especially for a Catergory 1 storm but it was pretty weak for us.
Pray for the people in Louisiana though because a Category 5 storm is no laughing matter. There's going to be ALOT of deaths.
No you don't. My brother chased the storms with his Discovery Channel friends and filmed it. It is no laughing matter and nothing to take lightly.
Just for this category 1 storm (Katrina) we had three deaths just from debris (mainly trees) falling on people, cars, etc... and killing them. For a category five storm coming at me, I'm leaving down and I've never left town for a storm to date and I've lived in Florida almost 30 years. I've lived through the worst and have seen the worst.
Here's some stuff from Hurricane Charlie that slaughtered my brother's neck of the woods. His friend "Mark Rackley" who also films for MTV (Wild Boyz and Jackass) and Discovery Channel (Manny Puig, the shark guy) did some storm chasing. http://lightningboy.com/charley/
Edit: Here's Frances footage which my brother helped film. They all came here on the way up to Vero Beach and we hung out for a bit.

Found this quote: "our local grocery store was rushed as people prepared for hurricane katrina. i thought it would be interesting to see what items disappeared the fastest. the isles that were empty were the bottled water aisle, meat aisle, potato chip isle, and beer aisle were the ones that were basically empty by 4 p.m. sunday, august 28, 2005."
Beer aisle emptied. ROFL.

Canned foods, water, and batteries are ALWAYS the first to go.
