I watched this twice and I think the child has been bought up well and dare I say, has a higher IQ than most his age. I suspect a single child with good parents.
In one word, I observed honesty.

Let Russia deal with the middle east for awhile. They can't do any worse.

Russia have been pushing their luck on loads of fronts, had to happen sometime. The Turks don't fuck about.
What are Russia going to do? Nothing, they are almost broke. They can't afford it.

Shooting at combatants in parachutes just isn't right. They should have been captured and would have valuable negotiating items.

Oh they have some leverage, i think Turkey depends on Russia for their natural gas for instance. Also, tourism of course. I'm inclined to agree that Russia just can't afford to fully retaliate at the moment though. At the same time Putin can't afford to look weak, so we'll have to wait see what they think up. It's bound to be something creative, Russia is good at games of chess.
In any case, there appears to be a lot more to this story; the Turkmen rebels are part of a rebel alliance where Al Nusra (which is an AQ ofshoot) is the biggest most important force. Doesn't matter much to Erdogan, who appears to be happy these guys are of Turkish heritage, he's sensitive to things like ethnicity like that (most fascists are). The fact that they're only slightly less radical than IS is less important than the fact that they're Sunni and against both Assad and the Kurds. Which means that the Russian rescue chopper that was forced down was very likely made to do so by an American supplied and manufactured missile, probably delivered to the rebels by Turkey.
Then there's the rumours of the oil smuggling business playing a role; Russia complained a few weeks ago that this major IS cash cow wasn't being handled by NATO at all and supplied evidence to prove it. NATO has since made a point of killing fuel trucks, they shot up a few hundred in a week or something. That oil mostly went to private individuals in Turkey, and the son of Erdogan is apparently in on this in a major way. Unsubstantiated stuff for sure, but the son of the sultan has been linked to dirty dirty things before, it wouldn't surprise me at all.
Exciting times we live in...

Russia is sending S-400 air defense missiles to their airbase 30 miles from Turkish border.
