Fair enough.

I don't like being pampered, unless it's by a harem of nude or nearly-nude women. But the gf would never go for that so I just focus on checking out the country and local attractions.

When we stayed in St. John we packed up our snorkeling gear and walked about a mile and a half to get to the beach we wanted, but we loved it. We saw hermit crabs and iguanas and all kinds of crazy plant life along the way that we wouldn't have seen otherwise. We could have easily taken a taxi anyway, but we just would have paid money to see a couple miles of bumpy road and save ourselves 30 minutes.

That's part of what was great about staying at the bed and breakfast where we were; we walked everywhere and got to see what real life was like on the island, while the people who stayed in the resorts took a bus to the bay in the morning and were bussed back out at night.

Disclaimer (might make myself sound like a hypocrite here): We're also going to Colorado soon. We're planning on staying in a nice resort-style hotel there.

That's a little different though, since the slopes are the only reason we're going. We have a ski lift right behind our hotel, so we can wake up and get straight on the lift and start skiing.

We stayed in a bed & breakfast in Key West once. Even though the place was nice, the room was small and we didn't get what I'd call breakfast. We brought our bikes and road all over. We had a good time though. Especially since Key West is a drunk Disney Land.

Either way I see what you mean. We'll most likely take a trip to the Myan ruins and do plently of walking...

Gun safe ++

Soon the wife and I will have our concealed weapons permits and be able to carry full time. I most likely won't carry, but my wife is small and travels with our son a lot and I want her to be able to fend off baddies.

I read it, part of it anway. We've got a gun safe and the guns are always locked up. The key is also hidden. I'm not so worried about home invasion as I have a monitored security system and I live in a great neighborhood. So there is no reason to leave a gun where my son or one of his friends will get it.

You have to be smart to avoid becoming a statistic.

Hidden keys can be found.

Yes they can. But as long as my family and I aren't home when they're found, there's nothing I can do. When my son becomes wise enough to start looking, the keys will go with the wife and I. He will also be educated about the danger and use of guns.
