Luckily I'm moving out of this dump in May. Early October they turn on the heat here, energizing all the dust that collected on the pipes in spring and summer, which fills the air in my apartment with death (and dust from the asbestos tiles on the floor).

get a wide zoom and a telezoom, and skip the mid-range.

That cheap-o db posted a link to earlier in the thread looks good, but the double rebate is a great opportunity and apparently it breaks easy. When you buy cheap you buy often. I plan on taking it overseas and don't want something that's going to break on me.

All of those lens are prime, as in no zoom. You really should invest in a good zoom lens to get you the flexibly of shot in the field. A prime lens is only really for portrait or landscape shots.
It’s all down to how much you want to spend. If money’s not an issue go for anything with the L prefix. L stands for luxury in the canon range and it’s the dog’s bollocks, nothing comes near.

I have the 28-300mm and it’s great for the money.

I can’t remember what lenses are discounted in the voucher booklet but if I had to choose one of the lenses you posted id go for the 50mm. Also remember this camera has a crop factor of 1.6 so your 50mm lens will actually be around 80mm.
