I'd be more worried about the fact that SOFII singleplayer, for example, was interminably boring and utterly generic.

Pardon my ignorance, but why is that a bad thing? Q1 had a lightning gun, as did Q3, can't remember about Q2 though.

Well, I dunno, it sounds like it has a lot of cool SP moments, and i lovethe upgrading thing it will let you do. So for once, i dont thin kthe gameplay will suck. I just think its a bit to "everything but quake 2" in terms of design and whats in it.

Q2 never, and this is the first true quake follow on. Its set in the wuake 2 universer. Its not impossible to have a lightning gun, but... Why would a marine have a lightning gun?

What's wrong with the lightninggun? IMO it's one of the better weapons in Quake III; it requires skill to use effectively and it just looks cool.

aye, the game's following on from q3 for mp as far as the interviews so far have indicated - so there would be a lightning gun.

considering that it's still very much pre-release, it's hardly worth getting your panties in a bunch over just yet.

There was a lightning gun in Q3, so I guess Q3 was a shitty game by your standards too.
