Grand Prix - The Killer Years

Post by losCHUNK »

Anyone seen this ?, BBC docu made a while back. Goes into quite a bit of detail about how the sport has become as safe as it is now, in contrast to the days when drivers had a 2 in 3 chance of dying and was acceptable because people assumed that driving fast means more deaths anyway. Has some pretty rough footage, the bit with David Purley almost gave me man tears.

I'm not sure if we allow dailymotion ?, could've grabbed it on iPlayer but half you fuckos cant watch that without a bit of internet magic, figured some on here might be interested though if they havn't seen it already ?

i've seen something similar in a diff docu, they started showing early stuff when they were driving cast iron tubs and it proceeded throughout the years where they were making safety changes.

Yea ?, any ideas what it was called ?, this only covers from the 60s onwards I think, the front engine racers looked lethal enough anyway.

I've seen these before n all that are well worth the watch and in a similar vein, pretty shocking tbh

Madness on Wheels - Rallyings Craziest Years

and another BBC one called The Deadliest Crash / Le Mans 1955 Disaster which was pretty jaw dropping, 83 dead in one accident -

Ahh the dirty Welsh tart :), was quite shocked by some of the shit - masgnesium cars ?

Group B Rally is quite similar, seems to focus on crowd safety too, that goes from its birth to its eventual banning. The Le Mans one shocked me because of the scale, the accident wasn't shown until towards the end of the docu and I knew nothing of it beforehand, after seeing it, think it took a while to get some words - that were probaly eventually MULTI KILL

Car impacts the bank at +150mph, shedding it's parts and sending the engine block, steering rack and suspension into the main grand stand

edit: just realised I linked to the wrong docu with the rally, it's actually another one from the beeb called madness on wheels -

Thanks. Very interesting watch.

Such simple times, when men were men, women were men, and race cars were bath tub shaped instruments of death
