Interestingly enough, looks to be exactly what it sounds like: http://www.moddb.com/mods/classic-doom-3/

Has anyone tried this? Is it worth re-installing Doom3 to try out?

US games publisher Take 2 has parted company with public relations firm The Redner Group, following Twitter comments concerning Duke Nukem Forever.

Redner's contract was terminated after it said journalists who gave the game a poor review would be blacklisted.

Take 2's subsidiary, 2K Games, said it did not share "or endorse" the views.

That's all well and good taking the moral high ground, except 2K actively blacklist gaming sites themselves if they post poor review scores or criticise their games. Eurogamer for example receive nothing from them. Pot kettle, etc..

Still, a PR firm should know better. Losing a multi-million pound contract in less than 140 characters.... love it.

I bought it for 19.99 and thought it was well worth the price. I wasn't expecting a lot, but it's a throwback campy fps that feels like it was released 10 years too late. It doesn't mean it's not fun, there are lots of games that feel outdated and are still fun...fps' in particular. The only real thing that bugged me was the 2 weapon limit, though I heard there's a patch for pc that lets you carry 4. Carrying 2 weapons just doesn't feel like Duke, but it's just a game mechanic of the past that was popular in games like Halo when they were developing the game and they never updated it.

I just don't understand a lot of the rage though. If you want a fittingly outdated metaphor, it'd be like going to see an Austin Powers movie expecting a James Bond. Duke is stupid, it knows it's stupid, just have some fun with it.

the opening scene in the game is Duke sitting on the couch playing a Duke Nukem video game with a gold plated 360 controller in his Las Vegas penthouse at the top of his own Las Vegas casino full of golden bust statues of himself while getting a blow job from two blond twins in school girl outfits. If you're expecting anything more than a crude, misogynist ride after that I don't know what to say.

Also...health boosts are known as "ego boosts" you get from admiring yourself in mirrors, lifting weights, etc....cans of beer and bottles of steroids are the defense + offense upgrades respectively...you can board an alien ship and slap alien tits growing out of the walls...you can run aliens and pigs down in a monster truck...use gigantic alien monsters' nutsacks as speed bags...and there are vulgar one liners and action movie cliches all over the place.

So yeah, it's stupid, but the fact that the game contains this kind of stuff shouldn't be a surprise. So all the reviewers that rated it poorly and used any of that as justification are retarded. You either think a lot of it's funny or you don't - you don't really have to play it to find out. Calling Duke stupid as a knock against it just doesn't make sense, it never tried to be any different.

As far as the reviewers saying they're disappointed in DNF because of their fond memories and it destroyed their childhood yadda yadda yadda, I think they're letting nostalgia cloud their memory. Duke Nukem never reinvented the fps genre gameplay wise or did anything that groundbreaking. It's always been about strippers. The problem with game reviewers these days is that a lot of them are young and didn't actually play the games back in the day. Maybe they download an old game a couple days before reviewing the new game in the series, but they've already made up their mind that they like it for the reviewer-cred and so they can refer fondly to it in their review.

It's only funny if you're 12 years old or a mentally challenged pumpkin like DTS.

Some times it's nice to put the brain on cruise control after a long day and not jump into a game like Skyrim or Mass Effect. It's junk food, I admit...I'm just saying it shouldn't be bashed for being junk food. You wouldn't compare McDonald's to a 5 star restaurant. And if you know you don't like junk food you probably shouldn't go to the MickyDs.

Not every game has to be a tripple A hit. Once you saw past its OBVIOUS flaws, it was bloody great fun.

McDonald's happens to cost far less than a 5-star restaurant. DNF was sold for the same price as other great games, why shouldn't it be compared and criticized?
