Re: Bethesda re-releasing Quake 4
Q4's SP was impressive from a developer's point of view (very detailed environments, great story progression etc.) but was extremely unplayable. It was so anally slow as fuck that I ended up just skipping to later levels out of boredom. And Q4's custom community failed since it made modding far more time consuming and complex.
Q2's SP is fast and to-the-point - how Quake should be. The monsters were seriously retarded but it was still good fun, the maps were well thought out and the mission objectives were varied and interesting. MP was better too - the physics were great, interesting weapons and items, etc..

what? q2 sp was totally balls vs q1. both in terms of level design, ai and soundtrack.

Where can I buy some of those rose tinted specs you're wearing?obsidian wrote:Intro cinematic is epic! Even by today's standard, not many other games have anything close to Q2 intro.

The movement in Q2 was etrememly quick if you knew how to drive it properlyDooMer wrote:No, q2 is slower and has shittier movement.

Yes did to be sure and I am. T'was nice, not a masterpiece like the UT3 ending but worthy IMO.Tsakali wrote:i just youtubed the q2 intro...I suggest you do the same and reevaluate your positions.
Re: Bethesda re-releasing Quake 4
You're right, Q1 didn't become most popular for it's tight arena deathmatch gameplay, and Q2 and Q3 didn't then follow that trend at all.Eraser wrote:That is a bit odd logic, because none of the Quake titles are in any way related to each other, neither in gameplay nor story. So the oddest thing about Q4 is actually that it has continuity from Q2.
Oh no wait, you're retarded and that's exactly what happened.
Re: Bethesda re-releasing Quake 4
In a very general sense, what you're saying is true. But getting down to the fine details, each game has extremely different gameplay (and of course the stories and settings aren't closely related) and Eraser is right.Foo wrote:You're right, Q1 didn't become most popular for it's tight arena deathmatch gameplay, and Q2 and Q3 didn't then follow that trend at all.Eraser wrote:That is a bit odd logic, because none of the Quake titles are in any way related to each other, neither in gameplay nor story. Re: Bethesda re-releasing Quake 4
Q2 had Action Quake 2 which had straffling up to people and sawn-off shotgunning them at point-blank range.DooMer wrote:No, q2 is slower and has shittier movement.
I love quake!
Re: Bethesda re-releasing Quake 4
Action Quake 2......... Man, the good old days... Ninja kicking some guy 20 miles over a map... Good times...
Re: Bethesda re-releasing Quake 4
t may not be impressive on a technological level (even taking the fact it's a 1998 game into account), but it absolutely breathes atmosphere with the radio chatter and all. I remember it got me totally pumped when I first saw it.Tsakali wrote:i just youtubed the q2 intro...I suggest you do the same and reevaluate your positions.

yes, I ignored the graphics, but i still get nothing from it. clearly whatever opinion you have on it, is influenced by nostalgia.

Quake 2 and as such 4 where the worst IMO.

Re: Bethesda re-releasing Quake 4
Quake 2 was by far my fave, so much so that Quake 4 sucked arse totally because it was nothing like Quake 2... Which it was supposed to be.
HOWEVER...
I would fucking LOVE to see a follow up to Quake 1 with all modern whizz-bang and stuff, would look amazing with proper shadows and detail... As long as it played like an old school shooter maybe...
