That xbox 360 scratching issue...
Apparently gamefly has, or is afraid of, issues with it...
emailed me this:
Our records indicate that you recently rented an Xbox 360 game for the first time from GameFly. The Xbox 360 is a high-end gaming console, which uses state of the art mechanisms. As stated in the user's manual, it is important that the console not be moved in any way while a disc is in the tray. Moving the console from the horizontal to the vertical position and vice versa, picking up the console or shifting it in any way while a disc is in the tray may result in damage to the console, including scratches to game discs.
If you have further questions regarding the Xbox 360 console, please contact Microsoft at 1-800-4MY-XBOX.

sounds like a "cover our butt" email to me. i'm not sure that 360 dvd's are any more or less prone to scratches than any other dvd media though - probably not.
that being said, if you look at any rental game or movie dvd's it's pretty obvious people don't take care of their own stuff much less someone elses.

sure is. it won't get banged up any more than any other dvd unless whatever "special coating" they put on the 360 dvd's is more prone to it. little scratches are normal, nothing to write home about.tnf wrote:The scratching is just from teh disk rattling around in the tray as the console is moved around, isn't it?

No, you cannot scratch it by putting it in the CD, what they are getting at is when the console is on and the disk is spinning, And you pick the box up and move it to its side, the disk will lag a little behind due to the Force that it has from spinning.
and it usually only floats 1CM off of the tray, so thats not much give, and if it tuches the trey wile spinning
we'll sir, thats what we call mad scratches

The only way to completely stop the problem from happening is installing a lil rubber pad/grommet thing on the lazer arm, because that's what it grinds into, a few 360 modscenes have confirmed it works, and btw, it only happens when you move the box...
Why not?

It could, adding more weight to the arm would hypothetically wear the motors out faster, and if somthing were to happen and that were to restrict movement or fall deeper into the 360 it could do some damage....
I did it to my 360 just to be safe, i even shook the 360 with a game playing to see what happened, nothing but a lil rubber smudge that comes off with a wipe of a microfiber cloth...

I hear it's an expert's tip to make their gameplay harder. They have to keep moving the console in a circle while trying to play the game 8)tnf wrote:This is what I don't understand in the first place..who is moving these things while the disc is spinning?+JuggerNaut+ wrote:just to be safe? why the hell would you move it while a disc is spinning anyway?
