Hey everyone...i know i am a noob to Q4 as pretty much everybody else at the present moment...but Q2 was (and still is my favourite MP game out there) ,also I ve spent alot of time play in Q3A and UT99 (mostly insta gib). So I cant say i dont have any experience at all, not to mention i was doing pretty good at the games mentioned above.
Maybe there is smth wrong with my PC or most likely with me , or even the game...BUT, I get MY BEHIND handed to me every time i go play any online server... ..Just kind of sad..i thought i'd do better, quake is still my fav FPS tho..but always coming in lower 3 positions certanly discurages of playing anymore.
How about you guyes>?

it is obvious, all that time you spent playing ut99 instagib has ruined your gaming abilities. but there is hope, clock in about 200 hours of play time in q4 and you'll probably be back to average level.
thats a gametype that really dependant on spamming gathering spots on a map and weapon camping. Try watching other players to see what they do.
Learning to move well in Q4 is important as well, see how better players strafe and move. Try to learn from them
Personally though I'd suggest playing CTF, since its less about weapon camping and more about teamplay. You get high scores for playing defense as well.
I always get owned in Q4 and usually end of cussing out everyone before I leave. I don't know whats wrong with me, I just cant kill anyone.
Does latency have alot to do with it? I like in Hawaii and usually have 200 ping depending on whose server I am on.
Should I play my game at Low settings and the lowest resolution so I can get 30 FPS? I play at Medium settings at 1200x1000 ( Or whatever ) and get a steady 30 FPS.
if you get 30 fps, lower your settings to 800x600 or even 640x480, and put everything on low detail and turn off all the extra stuff like bump mapping etc.
you should try to get 50-60 fps steady if possible.
try to find some west coast servers that you can ping fairly well to. I have one in LA that might work better for you. Certainly pings above 60 or so are going to cause you to miss shots a lot.

It's good you want to keep up with it. Just hang in there you will get good at it. Don't let it bother you that you loose, you will always find someone better, but hopefully someday you will find yourself on a server and the other players will be thinking the same thing that you're thinking now. "Why is it everytime I get my Ass handed to me?"
I myself like to play with ppl that are far more superior at playing the game than I am because you can mimck thier habits and get better because of it. They have spent countless hours perfecting thier craft why not learn from them?
Play tourney and always play against players that are better than you.
That's where real skill is used..where every hit and frag is made by you and not 4 other guys before you finish the opponent off like in DM.
Create a server in Lan, practice on the different maps where spawns are, weapons, routes etc...practice practice and practice.
Best way is to learn 1-2 of the most played VS maps.
Rail and shotgun is what im practicing now.. on Fragging yard and No doctors.

Lol, I know the feeling buddy. Losing a lot does make one wanna curse. If you're always getting 200 ping then it's always going to be tough getting near the top. Only consolation? Don't blame your self, blame the ping. It's not so much your personal skill level as it is the ping. I mean 200 is flippin hard to frag with! Add 30 fps to that which isn't great, and it makes it even harder for you. My pings are lower than yours, but even so, I'm used to 40 ping and rarely get below 80 to 100 at the moment. Plus a lot of the time the framerate gets so slow, I mean like 18fps, that there is nothing I can do to pull off frags when it becomes a slide show.
I don't think the skill level in Q4 is any higher than in Q3. Games I'm losing in Q4 I would be either winning or close to winning against the same players in Q3. It's just a bunch of other things in Q4 as discussed that are not helping.

...or maybe its the newbfactor and I can actually hit them.
