I just got finished watching this movie. Fucking great film. It really made me think about just how prejudiced I am. If you're up for something besides a brainless action flick, go rent this. I give this a 4.5/5
Anyone else seen it?

Re: Crash
This was posted by someone who reviewed the movie at the IMDB site. Long read, but worth it. :icon14:

stereotype - an oversimplified or biased mental picture held to characterize the typical individual of a group

we live in a society that has consciously and unconsciously divided us into stereotypes. nobody is excluded from being catergorized into one of these groups. these ideas can be both positive and negative. and while it is not fair to associate an individual with any particular stereotype, practically everyone is guilty of doing it to some extent. many people reading this will disagree and say they do not prejudge anybody, but yes, even you have done it on one level or another. it is possible, however, to not let your prejudices affect you outlook on another person or group of persons.
1. recognize what stereotypes you catergorize groups under.
i admit to being prejudice (see above). since i was a child a grew up believing that all birds fly (sorry if i offended anyone). i was a product of my society. my parents told me that birds fly. every book and tv show i watched that had represented bird in some shape or form flying. even songs on the radio dipicted birds as flyers (fly like an eagle).
2. understand there are exceptions to every stereotypes.
stereotypes would not exist if there wasn't at least a grain of truth to them. i mean come on, we all have at least seen one bird fly. so why would i question whether birds fly or not? to me this 'stereotype' was a factimagine my shock when i learned there are actually birds in the word that don't fly. ostriches, penguins, emus have wings but don't fly.
3. learn to see each other as individuals. learn to not unfairly size a person or group up due to a bias that we have.
i was wrong about the penguin. what if i was wrong about the parrot, or rooster, or dodo? all my life i thought i had it figured out when i actually had no clue. what else do i not know about birds. maybe they don't all sleep standing up. does that mean that they don't eat worms? is it possible everything doesn't taste like chicken? how could i be so unfair? i realize now it is my responsibility to make sure i get my facts straight , one bird at a time, before a form an opinion.
4. learn to appreciate our differences as individuals. learn to embrace our simularities.
to this day, i still sometimes associate birds with flying. but i know the truth and i don't allow this mental picture to not prevent me from giving the bird to learn for myself what this bird has to offer to the world. if i did, i would probaly miss out on the beautiful colors of it feathers. or the melody of its song chirp.
we all are prejudice in one way or another. prejudice doew not make someone a horrible person. prejudice doesn't make any one a racist either (see above). but if you are not careful, prejudice can lead a person to do a horrible deed. it can also be a gateway to racism.
i thought Crash was great.
There'll probably be much more insightful posts than mine, it'll be handy for lots of people
I like how it showed that there was more to people than their prejudices and the shitty things they did (Matt Dillon in particular, for example his dad and the really stand out bit at the end with the car). But I hated Sandra Bullock throughout, she only changed her attitude a tiny bit when she realised nobody gave a flying fuck about her, she never really redeemed herself, but I suppose that made it a bit more real, though it took away from the whole idea of the characters not just being complete bastards with racial biases.

I don't think it was as important for Bullock to redeem herself than to become aware of her prejudices. Unfortunately, I don't feel like the convenience store owner learned anything; just a delusional "an angel of mercy kept me from going to jail" thing.mik0rs wrote:There'll probably be much more insightful posts than mine, it'll be handy for lots of people

On a related note, I think the locksmith's story was incredibly touching. The way the related stories coincided was brilliant and emotional.
Edward Norton wasn't in Oceans Eleven.[FTF]Pyro wrote:I dont think there has been a bad film hes been in... okay Oceans Eleven was a remake and sucked in comparison but he was still goodTransient wrote:I first saw him in Fight Club. Superb actor.
Prolly one of the best actors around.
Are you thinking of Don Cheadle?
