Myst makers Cyan are finished
Myst makers Cyan are finished
Looks like Cyan Worlds Inc who made Myst and Riven are closing up. What a shame. Those games were a bit too hard for me but classics nevertheless.

When the first myst game was released home computers could barely render 3d. The cd-rom was new, for the first time people could distribute data with out a thousand floppy disks. But now, we have games like unreal engine 3. Who's going to want to play a high rez slide show.
I would have liked to see cyan create some thing unrelated to myst.

I don't play the myst games simply because I find them too hard, BUT, I think they're wonderful anyway. I tried the demo of the latest myst and although I didn't finish it I still love the atmosphere of it, plus the 3D movement is improved and faster now.
The fact that there's hardly any talking going on or interaction with other people is very appealing to a lot of players. I always fondly remember Zork Grand Inquisitor and Zork Nemesis because they had that same atmosphere, only much easier puzzles.

So instead of them adapting and changing the way they make games in this new age, they are just gonna fuck off?
Dumb fucks.
Do what id did. Buy/Make a new engine and start making the same old shit under a different name. Weeeeeeeeeeee!
Whats wrong with snapping up UE3, getting some new talent on the team, and making the same Myst type game under a different name/plot, in 3D, but with the same old movement/puzzle system?
