I had similar problems, and my solution involved tweaking the 'clientmaxrate' settings in the .cfg. For some reason, changing it in game did nothing, but I played around w/ the numbers until I got the best connection I could.

One more question...how can I write to the .cfg from the console?

You either bind it to "_button1" in the .cfg or you can do it directly in the WoD menu. Same for hook, except it's "_button5".

I was just worried when several guides said to edit the autoexec and leave the config alone and the config kept changing. Thanks for setting me straight.

I've been having problems switching from the Quake4Config.cfg to AutoExec.cfg. I originally made all my change in Q4C but now am trying to change.
