Well, a couple of quick facts - - 3DRealms has said that something like 84% of the people who bought UT2K4 never went online.....and it was a MP only game. Did they tell Epic? They might like to know. Oops...thanks for the correction! But still, although most people discussing this stuff in interne...

apply that last statement to the developer. The last quake game came out SIX YEARS AGO. In six years we get a pretty game with almost no content. I personally would have been completely happy to wait 7 years for a game with the content of say.... unreal tournament to mention one? You do realize tha...

Of all the bitch fests I've read, there is only 1 single item which I think has merit. Most of the griping is because their own system is old, or the game isn't close enough like their preferred game of choice, etc. If you accept that new games means advances and changes, then the only real gripe wh...

I take it the OP's mention of a hi-res pack was jokes? Not at all. I have a hi-res texture pack I got from someplace....don't remember where. Obviously, before the hi-res textures will work, you have to have an engine that uses the appropriate format. If you have trouble finding some replacement te...

Casual Q4 (or Q3) Leagues and Clans?
Where might I find info for leagues or clans that are tailored more towards casual gamers or noobs? Although I'm far from being "noob" (been involved in the Quake community from before Q1 was released ;) ), I don't have very good skills, nor do I have the time to perfect them. But I would ...

Not necessarily. If you didn't go any higher than 3 on3, and laid things out right. Granted, it would still be rather tight, and not really flowing open, but it could be done I think. Performance on the PC might be tough though.RedAlley wrote:Mech CTF would be great... but the maps would have to be huge.

I mean how likely is it going to be to ask id to make drastic changes to their engine, to make it more scalable and get results? Probably not very likely. Part of the point for id is pushing the envelope. Truth be told, I doubt they are building the engine or game for people like you or me who don'...

Just to clarify, for me this isnt about brightness nor is it about reverting to settings which make the game look like as if it could be ran on a game boy, it is for performance and a smoother game experience without having to spend an additional £200+ on computer upgrades. Infact if this command i...

You bring up a couple of good points, sch1. Now in terms of adjustments for playability, that's a different matter. And you can certainly make these changes to make playing the single player game more tollerable. The comparisons with the Source engine, however, are tough. In the big scheme of things...

Special Edition DVD
Although I had Q2, I didn't have either mission pack, so I got the Special Edition of Q4. We are now really spoiled as gamers. Unless you have an updated Q2 engine and a hi-res texture pack, it's tough to stomach the lack of detail from the Q2 and earlier era. At some point I'll get through those XP...

I think it is mostly CPU, at least for D3/Q4 engine. I turn shadows off as well for my AMD2600, 1.5GB RAM, nVidia 6600 w/256. I can go from 800x600 to 1024x768 without significant change in FPS. The D3 engine, even moreso than any of the previous id based engines, really requires some config tweakin...

Ahh, they have to upgrade with the times. Also, different types of units may have different loads of weapons, so that doesn't bug me any. Now off hand, I do think they could have at least tried to keep a little of the architectural style. Granted, you'd give it more detail and such, but Q2 had a def...
