I have the chance to get my hands of a Sun Microsystems SunFire V120 for ...really cheap, while I'm sure it's reliable and an all around quality system, are there any Sun Microsystems enthusiasts out there that can speak to the ease of configuration/value of that system in terms of it being...2010? I can get it for less than $150.
I was going to put it to work hosting my own maps, but I also kinda wanted to get it because...Sun isn't really a thing anymore and it'd be a cool museum type of thing to have later on. (note: I'm a huge nerd)
oh I know it's sparc based, that was primarily why I was interested in that particular machine. It's another thing I could put on my resume that I'm familiar with running, but that's neither here nor there. Keep in mind it's 150-ish US, so that's about 90 pounds, or 111 euros. Also, there might be a sale in a few weeks were I could pick it up for 105 US.
Is it still not worth it for 105 if it goes that low?
I got a Dell Poweredge 750 sporting a 3.4GHz Xeon so, that'll make a happy home for my quake 3 maps online. I love it when stores have no clue what things are worth. This thing came with a really advanced remote management card, a SCSI 160 card, 4gb of ecc ram and it's a 1U server, for 60 dollars. I've just gotta figure out how to configure dedicated q3 servers again.
