Maybe we should include this in our discussion about how popularist movements effect our political landscape ;)

I now have a genuine feeling of fear, anxiety and existential dread for my future. The UK film industry is going to disappear overnight.

But... but... we would have changed our ways if only you'd stayed :tear:

Serious reforms are needed though, if anything is abundantly clear it's that the EU needs to change. To name a few things i'd be for:

- get rid of the rotating EU presidency and actually elect a person who stays in power for a set term. As in, actual people should elect this person, not the parliament.
- make it so that i can vote for say, a Spanish party in EU elections
- seriously reduce the size of the EU parliament, it's far too large to be effective
- take a hard look at the subsidies and axe a whole bunch of them

In short, make the average European feel like he has something to say about the EU project instead of making it this vague thing in Brussels you have little say over. And reduce the waste, there's so much waste... and most of it is a result of politically motivated deals (hey if you frenchies vote for this thing we promise not to bring up those ridiculous wine subsidies you claim are so important). Etc, etc.

In any case, like Phant, i'm actually worried about my future a little. Because this is going to make all of us poorer... goddamnit.

I'm hoping the decision gets vetoed - it's not guaranteed just yet.

Two of my Friends are already accelerating their plan to leave the UK; one to China and one to New Zealand heh.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if there was a Dutch referendum on your EU membership in the next year.

I doubt it and I don't think we'll vote in favor of leaving. I think the British are far more cynical when it comes to the EU than us Dutch. But, having said that, the anti-EU sentiment is increasingly being fueled by (mostly) right-wing parties here.

The odds were well in favour of remain from what I recall. The bookies have probably had huge losses from this!
