There was a massive Overwatch LAN tournament this weekend past, the ESL Atlantic Showdown at Gamescom. Some insane games and an unexpected outcome. I'll try to avoid spoilers, so I've just blind linked the full match VODs below [fair warning: there's a lot of talking around the matches, but you can skip it by previewing the progress bar].

btw the team that won has 2 quakers on their team, winz who was a quake pro(won tdm at quakecon like a year or two ago) and his brother akm.. cypher and cooller have a team with avek playing with them at the begining but he left. they are pretty good but it seems they didnt qualify, still in the top10 in the world im being told. rapha, dahand and id also formed a team.

So, I love stuff like this. Some dude showed his mum pictures of all the Overwatch characters and asked her to descrbe them, their abilities, and give them a call sign. There's some hilarious stuff in there, and some remarkably on point insight.

Started playing in Competitive Mode.
A much more enjoyable experience IMO. I don't personally care about wins and points and ranks; however other people do and are therefore much more determined to play the game as intended.
Quickplay is people charging into the objective one by one most of the time, in Competitive there are actual coordinated attacks.

I wonder how long it will be until I get into the Salty Ranks though..

In my experience that happens somewhere around 45. You still get salty people in higher ranks but not as much. Although the rankings are all different now from what I understand so who knows.

Yeah it's not even from some never-heard-of-before Chinese knockoff developer. It's from Hi-Rez Studios, who made games like Tribes Ascend and Global Agenda, which both are respected titles.

The boss of the studio said it's all just coincidence as Paladins was in pre-production well before Overwatch was announced, and then continued to say how Overwatch ripped off game modes from other games as well (specifically referring to Payload).

He seems to be forgetting about the 1-on-1 Torbjorn, Roadhog, Mei, Hanzo, Junkrat, Reaper, Reinhardt and Soldier 76 rip-offs.

They have pre-alpha footage of some of their heroes from before Overwatch was even announced. I'm still skeptical it's all entirely coincidence.

The videos he points to in his defense are a far cry from where the game ended up, and at any time in the creation process, he could have adjusted the design in response to Overwatch's similarities.
