I'm curious to see what Magic Leap ends up being. The people behind it are being super vague, which doesn't instill much confidence in the product, but Google invested half a billion in them, so who knows...

It looks awesome, but I'm skeptical.

Does anyone know how you see the real world with Hololens? Is the display transparent and does it render the virtual stuff on the display on top of the real world, or is the display an opaque display and will you see the real world through a camera?

I'd go with the former, since transparent displays already exist, and bothering to fake the correct pov through a camera is unesesary and usually not on the Mark... But then again this IS microsoft

Unless they can make it opaque where they draw pixels, you'd never get a crisp image like shown in the video because you'd see the real world through it. I really wonder how it works and how well it works.

Also note the discrepancy between the Kinect reveal demos and the final product.

Apparently the display can show opaque pixels:
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015/05/ ... f-reality/

The article does mention Kinect style mapping of the surroundings. Not sure if that means your entire house should be outfitted with Kinetic sensors or if it's integrated into the device itself.

integrating it to the device itself is most likely beyond their capabilities as of right now. Just imagine how good it's sensing and tracking sampling abilities would have to be to keep the placement of drawn pixels from looking laughable.

Magic Leap is too much blah blah and too few hard facts. All of these tech startups that shroud their tech in mystery usually end up being bullshit.
