Torrent of every Q3 level ever released

Post by Foo »

Here is a torrent of every Quake 3 custom level I have found. Approximately 15,500 custom levels. 111Gb total, but it's been packed to allow you to select individual files/mods if you prefer.

Paste this magnet link into your torrent client:
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:0218cc054f95eab157621bdd54475addbf509138&xt=urn:btmh:1220c57bbda3b35342047b0a7c6a9478d8eca2873cb406bc5620a3e6aa10e050da1a&dn=Quake%203%20Level%20Archive&tr=udp%3a%2f%2ftracker.opentrackr.org%3a1337%2fannounce

Notes
  • Did I miss one? Prove it with a download link and I'll add it in ;)
  • PK3 and ZIP are mixed together. Where I found a zip, I ditched the matching PK3. Where I can't find a ZIP, the PK3 remains. There are probably still a few duplicates mixed in, especially where the ZIP and PK3 names didn't match.
  • There are some .exe files because at some point shipping maps in self-extracting archives was popular. You should be able to drag them into a zip tool to open them and avoid running.
  • Some pk3s may seem broken but work ok in Q3. These appear to be ones made with Pak Explorer or PK3Man and have messed up the file headers.
  • There are probably one or two items in here that are not actually maps. Please let me know if you discover any.
  • I virus scanned the lot and nothing came up dodgy.
  • Yes, there are many box maps. I love them all.
  • Mod-specific level have been shuffled into their own folders where I could identify them, and where they aren't compatible with unmodded Q3 (e.g. Rocket Arena levels that need multi-arena support)
Sources
Lvlworld, quakeunity, worldspawn archive, mrlazy, Excessive+ FTP, DS-Servers, Q3Retro, stvef.org, EFServers, OkayFun, Archive Team's FilePlanet backup, numerous small repositories and individual mapper portfolio sites.

Updated September 2023 - Jumped from 7k to 15.5k maps, re-rolled the entire torrent.

Good question! About 53Gb. However there's a folder 'Archives' for ZIP/RAR/7Z/EXE at about 20Gb and a folder 'PK3' for just bare files at about 30Gb. I haven't stepped through and removed duplicates between those two, but most torrent clients will let you pick only one folder or the other if you don't want the full lot. They're not exact duplicates of each other - There were many PK3s where I couldn't find a wrapper archive file version, and probably quite a few ZIPs that haven't been expanded into the PK3 folder.

When you get down to it identifying matches is kinda tricky - You'd need to expand both the ZIP and PK3 right down to the .bsp file and compare size or hash. There were quite a few PK3s with the same name that had entirely different levels in them, or just substantially different versions of the same level.

Ace work Foo!

Couldn't find those map files I thought I had unfortunately, just a bunch of old RtCW stuff.

Trying to DL the torrent, but getting nuthin' at the mo.

I hope you don't mind, but I also sent a link to the thread to RPS. This strikes me as the kind of curiosity they'd post.
And hey, the more people download and host it, the quicker it gets, eh?

Ah, Windows Update decided last night my PC simply must be rebooted. Should be up and running now :D

100% The more people have a copy the greater the chance this stuff can still be accessed in future. Please share anywhere that might be interested. Appreciate it!

Already I have a snagging list of (potential) PK3 files that aren't in the torrent:

Return to Castle Wolfenstein, now there are some memories  Played that for too long and I feel like checking it out again. Sad I know...

Having said that, mention of STEF (Star Trek: Voyager Elite Force) elsewhere here had me installing it just yesterday for a run about :smirk:

Yes. Also Urban Terror, threewave, Defrag etc. It's very much a kitchen-sink pack.

If I get a magic block of about 40 hours at some point, I hope to sort it properly and de-dupe between /archives/ and /pk3, but I realized getting it out to more people was an important first step, or it'd never be 'done'.

Yeah, figured that, and I'm sure once it picks up steam, you'll see people releasing their own "forks" where they've applied their own systems of organisation to them.

I've added a delta torrent with 5Gb additional content! Linked in the OP post above.

This is additonal stash of maps sourced from the Elite Forces community which took me some time to sort through. They are proper Q3 levels though, not EF levels.

Also the challenge is still outstanding - So far, nobody has found any levels I don't already have :owned:

Added a paste site dump of all the .zip and .pk3 filenames for custom maps that I know of.

If you have anything not in this list, or just want to send me a big directory listing to parse through, please get in touch.

I am also curating a list of maps I believe are lost from the Internet. It would make me extremely happy to be proven wrong about this:

New torrent brought online - Total has gone from 7k to 11.5k levels in the last couple of months thanks to a few kind contributors and a shitload of digging in the Wayback Machine.

New magnet link to DL is: magnet:?xt=urn:btih:86cad7fa4262cff46d1ea9cf4b543bb2b1be9333&xt=urn:btmh:122000b6366f88d8e6acba82ba3bab7438541c6f0ff53cdbaee4d80c23f002a7d4d1&dn=Quake%20III%20Levels&tr=udp%3a%2f%2ftracker.opentrackr.org%3a1337%2fannounce

The total size is now 65Gb

Thanks for grabbing it. Starting to run out of fruitful contacts on this one so this might be as big as it gets for the forseeable unless there's a breakthrough.

I've got about a page full of missing levels noted, but absolutely no more leads on where I might be able to find them.

The president of the Internet Archive won't take my calls any more :paranoid:

New torrent for September 2023. Added a ton of Urban Terror maps, removed a bunch of duplication, sorted a bunch of stuff into subfolders, found some missing maps. Total size is now 15.5k maps and 111Gb

Kinda running dry on regular web sources for content now, as well as some of the deep web options like mirrors of old ftp sites and such. If anyone has any experience with common crawl and could help me figure out searching it for specific URL suffixes (see where I'm going with this?), please hit me up :D

Urban Terror had a ton of levels, it seems, and someone was kind enough to be running an open directory that I could scrape. Not entirely sure if the later URT maps will load in the Q3 mod version, didn't they shift to a standalone binary at some point?
