I'm wondering how they don't have a character which works similar to the gels from portal 2 that throws down puddles on the ground to give team speed boost or bounce them obscenely high when they jump on it

Depends on what the game is. I'll have no issues spunking up day one cash for Quake Champions or another DOOM, Portal 3 or....lol....Half Life 3. If you also mean that you want to see yourself flying through the portal Team Arena style, that's done by teleporting to a separate map area and back.

I'm going to make a portal to another point in the level. But it will be like a pit. People will fall in it and warp to another area of the map.
I need to know what are the different types of portals. I need to know how to link them via trigger objects and everything. Thanks.

Thanks, CZghost, that led to a fix. I've made two banks facing each other, each with only one actual portal, the other stations do other things. Because they face one another, the player will inevitably be turning their back on the other. It works.

The portal actually gets only covered by the cloud layer, but actually doesn't get deactivated. In order to do so you need to actually look away from that portal to get it off your view.

just replaying Doom 2 for first time in ages. for the new Doom they could have developed the puzzle element of the early 2½D game with a Portal-style aesthetic (i.e. simpler geometry, fewer polygons) with monsters, instead of the naturalistic approach they actually went with. that could have been fun

There is a website where you can put in your seed# and it will give you a map of it. Very useful. The only Mesa biome on mine was like 10k units away. So I build a portal system in the nether which is 1/7th scale of the overworld. Fastest way to travel the overworld is on a horse in the nether.
