I'm the head admin of the irc-channel #cpmpickup at Quakenet. We are a community who plays loads of CPM and love doing so.
We are currently holding a tournament with prize money(!) for the person who makes the best CTF/NTF/CTFS map for Q3 CPMA CPM gametype. We will hold an open public poll for everyone to vote once we started testing the maps. Someone told me to come here since there are a few experienced mappers on this site so I'd love to welcome you to the tournament!
Carmac and I have done several video interviews with multiple Quake 3 players at the ESWC grand finals event this past week in San Jose. Cypher won the whole event with Germany's k1llsen coming in second, and America's rapha coming in third. Players interviewed and online include CZM, Cooller, k1llsen, chance and griffin. Longer interviews with Cypher and rapha will be up shortly.
Quake Unity has plenty of streaming HD Quake Live CTF and 1v1 matches up for your perusal, straight from the Quakecon tournaments. Get over there and check them out if you want to see what the game is all about. http://www.quakeunity.com/browse=subcat&sid=125
John Carmack says that Doom 4 will be "significantly different" than Doom 3 and probably more of a throwback to the earlier Doom series of fast paced action gunning and lots of gore. It will also have an M-rating so it will be guaranteed bloody. It will be a 30Hz game unlike Rage's 60Hz, which effectively means up to 3x the graphics fidelity of Rage! It also promises better multiplayer gameplay than Doom 3. Sounds promising!
It's that time of year again. Quakecon 2008, id Software's annual Quake-centric LAN event starts tomorrow. If you're one of many who have been obsessively checking their inbox for a beta invite, you'll be happy to know that QuakeUnity is on a mission to unveil most of Quake Live's mystique during the event, with HD VOD coverage of the tournaments, and a walk through of some of it's features. Nice.
As usual, you can expect to see John Carmack's keynote, along with more information on upcoming id Software titles including Rage, and the new Wolfenstein. If you live near the Dallas area, consider stopping by. It's free. If you can't bear to drag your ass outside, QuakeUnity will have HD VOD's of the keynotes up for your perusal. That's free too.
